Google Offers Online Storage Increase for a Fee

In an article at InformationWeek it was reported that Google is now offering (for a fee) an increase in the free online storage of email, pictures through Picasa Web Albums, and also some of the other online applications in the near future.

Google Brings Premium Pricing to Online Storage Options

Google on Thursday augmented the free storage it offers to users of its online services with the option to buy additional storage.

Users of Picasa Web Albums and Gmail, and soon Google Docs & Spreadsheets, can now choose from several expanded storage options: 6 Gbytes ($20 per year), 25 Gbytes ($75 per year), 100 Gbytes ($250 per year), or 250 Gbytes ($500 per year).

The article goes into some comparisons on the costs of other online storage choices.

While the storage for Google Gmail is nearly 3 GB and Picasa Web Albums is 1 Gbyte, most users will never use that.

What I think is lacking with the storage amount is the ability to use it for all types of file storage. If Google were to offer a backup solution that provides storage for all types of files, besides emails and photos, this would be an ideal solution for many individuals.

There are already quite a number of online storage solutions for backing up your data. Some even provide a means of having a virtual hard disk across a network of computers. These online storage programs allow you to sync in your virtual drive. For example, if you were to place a file in the virtual drive at one computer, it will automatically show up at the other. Likewise, if the file is removed on any of the computers, the file will also be removed across the whole network.

Google was rumored / confirmed to be working on a GDrive or the Platypus.

There are actually a few free experimental Gmail email drives. Here is an interesting article at the Wikipedia Gmail Drive.

So, I would like to see Google provide a true GDrive for the public. I think it would be a big hit.

Just my two cents worth.

Do it with Internet marketing style! Any person that has known me long enough will find out that I usually get straight to the sales and marketing point. Invest your time wisely. Make a difference in the world. Each individual has something special to share that can impact the world around them. Maybe your sphere of influence is one person, maybe it is your family, business, neighborhood, or a larger group of people. But, no matter how large or small a group of people that you come in contact with, a person can effect change for the good in life. We can start today with a simple business investment, with a professional word of encouragement, a "thank you", or just a kind look that really shows that you understand and appreciate another person.
